When to use this visual

Use this visual during:

  • the first appointment after diagnosis
  • an education session explaining T1D Basics
  • meeting with new caregivers, teachers, or family
  • onboarding sessions for new clinic patients

This tool is designed to:

How to use it with parents

Step 1
Start with the top section, “What is Type 1 Diabetes?”. Point to the immune cells and insulin illustration to explain the autoimmune process in a simple way.

Step 2
Move to “Insulin is IMPORTANT” to explain why insulin matters for survival

Step 3
Discuss the symptoms they may have experienced.

Step 4
Use the “Treatment” panel to introduce insulin therapy and DSMES.

Step 5
Use the “Daily Life” panel to explain what routines will evolve over time.
